"Seven Nation Army" is a song originally performed by The White Stripes that Melanie Martinez covered while she was on The Voice.
Background[]
Melanie did this song for the Top 10. For this performance, Adam was worried because there were long instrumental parts in the song. Melanie told him that she would just sing "bum" repeatedly in those parts. In the long run, it worked out because this was Melanie's first song to reach the top 10 songs in alternative music on iTunes. Her votes were doubled from this, and she received enough to continue to the Top 8.
Lyrics[]
[Verse 1]
I'm gonna fight 'em off
A seven nation army couldn't hold me back
They're gonna rip it off
Taking their time right behind my back
And I'm talking to myself at night becaue I can't forget
Back and forth through my mind behind a cigarette
[Pre-chorus]
And the message coming from my eyes
Say "Leave it alone"
[Verse 2]
Don't want to hear about it
Every single one's got a story to tell
Everyone knows about it
From the Queen of England to the Hounds of Hell
And if I catch it coming back my way
I'm gonna serve it to you
And that ain't what you want to hear but that's what I'll do
[Pre-chorus]
And the feeling coming from my bones
Says "Find a home"
[Verse 3]
I'm going to Wichita
Far from this opera forevermore
I'm gonna work the straw
Make the sweat drip out of every pore
And I'm bleeding and I'm bleeding and I'm bleeding
Right before the Lord
All the words are gonna bleed from me
And I will think no more
[Pre-chorus]
And the stains coming from my blood
Tell me "Go back home"
"Go back home"
[Verse 1]
