"Nurse's Office" is a song by Melanie Martinez that is featured as the fifth track on her sophomore album, K-12. The official music video, originally available as part of the film, was later separately released on November 7, 2019.
Background[]
On June 17, 2019, several clips and snippets of Melanie's then-upcoming film were shown at the MTV Movie Awards, with a snippet of the song playing in the background. A second snippet was released exclusively in Germany as an assignment on August 28, 2019, before being officially released worldwide.
Theme[]
This song touches on the common problem of school bullying. Cry Baby, in the song, is being bullied so badly that she wants to fake sick to go to the nurse's office and get out of class. At one point, a teacher gets mad at her for speaking out when a bully cuts her hair, and Cry Baby goes through with her plan by pretending to have a serious illness, and is finally allowed to leave.
Lyrics[]
[Verse 1]
Don't cut me, punch me, just let me go
Into the nurse's office where I float away
I'm pale as the loose-leaf paper they grow
From hollowing out all my lungs in the snow
[Pre-chorus]
Yeah, I'm coughing, I'm bleeding
Band-Aids won't heal it
'Cause they hate me, so I'm fakin'
All, all, of this so they take, take me
[Chorus]
Take me home
Give me that pink slip of permission
This is old
I'm tired of wishing I was ditching
[Post-chorus]
Ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh-ooh
[Verse 2]
Teacher, can I sit right there?
This bitch behind me is cutting my hair
"No, just sit your ass down at the chalkboard you stare"
I faked up a seizure and left outta there
[Pre-chorus]
Yeah, I'm coughing
I'm bleeding, Band-Aids won't heal it
'Cause they hate me, so I'm fakin'
All, all, of this so they take, take me
[Chorus]
Take me home
Give me that pink slip of permission
This is old
I'm tired of wishing I was ditching
[Post-chorus]
Ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh-ooh

Take me home
Give me that pink slip of permission
This is old
I'm tired of wishing I was ditching

Music video[]
After the events of "Show & Tell", Angelita turns the broken Cry Baby doll back to human form in front of the nurse's office. A group of nurses come and stare at them. They are tied down to stretchers and are walked through the infirmary by nurses who start dancing and cutting Cry Baby's hair. The two girls manage to escape briefly, only to be caught and tied back down. They are then drugged and connected to a strange machine. As the Bunny Doctors are about to turn on the machine, Lilith appears and saves the girls, making the nurses and Bunny Doctors disappear. Cry Baby and Angelita beg her to take them with her before she leaves, but she reminds them that they are immortal and will be reincarnated after their death, and the only way to learn is through experience.
Cast[]
Errors[]
- A nurse cuts Cry Baby's hair and throws it away, however, the chunk of hair is not seen on the floor later on.
- When Lilith appears and the nurses turn around, one of the nurses on the right has her hands in front of her while the rest have their hands behind their backs. When Lilith makes the nurses disappear, the same nurse quickly puts her hands behind her back.
