Later that month, Lisa tweeted at Melanie Martinez telling her that Atlantic Records sent her a song where Melanie wrote the verses: "Of course! Hey I got an Atlantic track to write on with some verses of yours ;)"[1] This confirmed Melanie's indirect participation in the writing of the song.

The song details a toxic relationship between Lisa and her at-the-time lover. "Hell on my heart" refers to how she metaphorically feels because of her significant other and how they have hurt her emotionally.
