Angelita is a character created by Melanie Martinez for her film, K-12. She is a student at K-12 Sleepaway School and is Cry Baby's best friend. She is portrayed by Elita Harkov.

Life[]

Angelita is one of Cry Baby's best friends presumably for a while, but it is unknown when they met; Angelita is first seen when Cry Baby boards the school bus to K-12 Sleepaway School. When the other students start harassing Cry Baby on the bus, Angelita sides with Cry Baby and tells her to ignore them. Kelly and the other students continue to harass Cry Baby, making fun of her name. Along with Cry Baby, Angelita is annoyed by the antics of their fellow students. The two use their powers to subtly sabotage the other students. The driver sees blood on the mirror and drives into the lake nearby, but when Cry Baby and Angelita see this, they use their powers to make the bus fly into the air. Angelita considers not letting the bus down, but suddenly a boy yells that he's going to jump out the window. They decide to land the bus and are taken to school.

Throughout the film, she assists Cry Baby with killing The Principal, saves her when she is turned into a doll, helps Cry Baby to the best of her ability to fight off Kelly, and accepts Cry Baby's new friends. In "Teacher's Pet", it's revealed that Angelita has a crush on the Biology Teacher who tells her to stay after the class ends (Angelita is unaware that he is working with Leo, Cry Baby's nemesis). The teacher tricks Angelita into thinking that he likes her, but he uses this opportunity to shrink her with a poisoned lollipop. He tries to dissect her, but Cry Baby saves her. Angelita attacks him with a knife once Cry Baby restores her to normal size, which presumably kills him.

It is implied that Angelita had a difficult childhood since she says a phrase in French that means "There's blood everywhere", which she explains that she had learned it from her nanny. She was revealed to be an empath guided by Lilith (a spirit guide). When her eyes turn black, it represents her being awakened to a higher level of consciousness. She can move objects from a distance and create fire with her mind.

Personality[]

As opposed to Cry Baby, Angelita is cold to people she doesn't know, but does trust her new friends, and laid back although fiery, using her powers when annoyed and believing in revenge. She will not hesitate to use her powers to harm those she hates which is shown when she encourages Cry Baby to use her powers during her fight with Kelly. She is shown to be loyal as well, sticking up for her friends when they are picked on. Overall, Angelita is kind, calm, and brave.

In Alternative Press magazine, Angelita was revealed to be a Leo sun and Libra rising. Her zodiac sign was described as tactful, romantic, charming, just, diplomatic, and balanced, but also superficial, detached, unreliable, laid-back, indecisive, and self-indulgent.

Powers and abilities[]

Main article: Empath

As an empath, Angelita is shown to have magic/psychic powers, where her eyes are turned completely black when she uses them. This is shown multiple times in K-12, telling her friend Cry Baby that "they can do whatever they want" when it comes to their powers. It is shown that she often takes advantage of her skills for her own benefit. Below is a list of powers that Angelita has displayed thus far:

  • Telekinesis: Like all Empaths, Angelita has demonstrated the use of telekinesis to move objects with her mind's force. The power is first shown in "Wheels On the Bus", coupled with Cry Baby's own psychic abilities. Angelita uses this ability multiple times throughout K-12.
  • Reality manipulation: During the scene in "Class Fight", Cry Baby and Angelita was shown going under the blanket, creating their self-made huge fortress inside.
    • Mental reintegration: In the scene directly before "Nurse's Office", after seeing Cry Baby in doll form, Angelita was able to turn Cry Baby back to her normal state. A pinkish fog is created around her target when the power is used.
  • Pyrokinesis: As seen in "Class Fight", Angelita has the ability to manipulate fire, creating a small flame in her hand without being hurt by it. She can generate it on her own, but the fire can be easily dissipated, as seen when Cry Baby put out the fire with a few drops of water.
  • Tele-materialization: After the following scenes in "Class Fight", Angelita pursued Cry Baby into calling her mother as she generates a telephone behind her back out of nowhere.
  • Clothing creation: It is shown during the scenes in between "Strawberry Shortcake" and "Lunchbox Friends", when Angelita gets her period for the first time, that she can create clothing pieces from thin air, which she uses to create a sweater she wraps around her skirt to obscure the period stain.

Skillset[]

  • Knife proficiency: Angelita is shown to be very proficient in using knives as weapons. This is shown when she attacks and kills the Biology Teacher at the end of "Teacher's Pet". This ability came from Angelita's actress, Elita Harkov.[1][2]
