"Extra Credit", formerly called "Green Room", is a mini web series documentary about Melanie Martinez. It was made as a partnership with YouTube Music.
Theme[]
The documentary series is about Melanie's process of creating her art, such as her writing process, how she directs her music videos and her process with costume design. It also touches on personal aspects of her life, such as her childhood and relationships with friends and love interests.
Background[]
The series was first announced in a Rolling Stone article after K-12 was released. A new episode was intended to be uploaded to Melanie's YouTube channel every other week as an interception to the music video portions of the film being released.[1] Plans appear to have changed since, as Melanie has posted the music video portions alone every Thursday. The first episode of the series, titled "Arts & Crafts with Melanie Martinez", was accidentally leaked on October 31, 2019, as someone from Atlantic Records sent the unlisted link to a fan. The episode was later officially uploaded to Melanie's YouTube channel two weeks later, on November 15, 2019.
On December 19, 2019, the series name was changed from "Green Room" to "Extra Credit", possibly to better fit the school theme of K-12.
