"Dead to Me", sometimes stylized as "Dead To Me" and originally titled "Dead 2 Me",[1] is a song by Melanie Martinez featured as the third track on her debut EP, Dollhouse and her EP Pity Party.
Background[]
Skizzy Mars was pitched the hooks of the song by the producer One Love in June 2013, he recorded his own versions, but they were ultimately discarded. Later, the hooks were pitched to Melanie Martinez, who received them and wrote her own verses for the song.
"Dead to Me," along with the other tracks from Dollhouse, were intended to appear on Melanie's debut album Cry Baby; however, both this song and "Bittersweet Tragedy" were ultimately scrapped from the final track list.[2]
On May 6, 2014, Melanie previewed a snippet of the song to her Instagram account.
Theme[]
The song serves as the aftermath of "Carousel" within the Dollhouse universe and centers on a woman attempting to distance herself from her ex-boyfriend. Despite her efforts, she is unable to forget him; ultimately, the only way she can move on is by figuratively killing him and erasing his existence from her mind.[3]

- The song's second demo was recorded during the same session as the second version of "You Love I".
- Despite having profanity in the lyrics, the song is not considered to be explicit, and no official clean version exists.
- In an interview with GroundSounds in 2014, Melanie stated that "Milk and Cookies" is "like a weird sequel" to this song.[4]
