Snippets of the song began to surface on August 3rd, 2015 and the full song was leaked on January 16th, 2016.

Background

This song was eventually cut, presumably due to thematic differences from the rest of the album, as well as the controversial and sensitive nature of the song.

Cross-references

  • "[...], carousel spinnin" is a direct reference to Carousel.
  • The lyric "Our peaceful, little perfect family" could be a veiled reference to Dollhouse.
  • A post-apocalyptic life is also discussed in Fire Drill.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Pinky promise
I'll still love your garden
Even with no flowers
Even with no flowers
Doctor's orders
Don't be brokenhearted
Time will still be ours
Time will still be ours

[Pre-Chorus]
Never thought that something
Something so tragic
Could ever happen to
Our peaceful, little perfect family
I promise
Promise to love you
You and the children
Carousel spinnin'
Our neighborhood will always be this pretty

[Chorus]
Bombs are falling
On Monday morning
Waiting for the news together
An explosion, any moment
You make moments last forever and ever
(You make moments last forever)

[Verse 2]
Eyes like hazel
Twinkle in the starlight
Even when they're crying
Even when they're crying
Constellations
Forming out of scar lines
Even when they're dying
Love will still be trying

[Pre-Chorus]
Never thought that something
Something so tragic
Could ever happen to
Our peaceful, little perfect family
I promise
Promise to love you
You and the children
Carousel spinnin'
Our neighborhood will always be this pretty

[Chorus]
Bombs are falling
On Monday morning
Waiting for the news together
An explosion, any moment
You make moments last forever and ever

[Bridge]
Bombs are falling on Monday morning
Bombs are falling, you make moments last forever

[Chorus]
Bombs are falling
On Monday morning
Waiting for the news together
An explosion, any moment
You make moments last forever and ever

[Outro]
Bombs are falling on Monday morning
Bombs are falling
You make moments last forever
You make moments last forever

Trivia

  • Some fans have theorized that the song's lyrics could possibly be a reference to the Boston Marathon bombing or the bombing of Hiroshima.
    • However, the Boston Bombing theory has currently been proved to be incorrect, considering that the bombing took place in the afternoon and not the morning.
  • YouTube and SoundCloud list Bombs on Monday as an alternate title for this song.
  • As with many other unreleased songs, most uploads of this song on YouTube, SoundCloud, or other similar content-sharing websites will be immediately taken down.
  • This song was produced in Logic Pro 9.1.8, a music software Melanie has used for several other songs.
