Atlantic

Atlantic Recording Corporation (also known as Atlantic Records) is a major American record label known for its numerous recordings of rhythm and blues, rock and roll, jazz, and hip hop. Since being founded in 1947 by Ahmet Ertegun and Herb Abramson,[1] numerous Grammy winning artists have been featured, as well as many "legendary" artists, including Aretha Franklin, Cher, Led Zeppelin, and The Rolling Stones.[2] Their parent company is Warner Music Group. Current artists signed to Atlantic Records include Cardi B, Charli XCX, Ed Sheeran, Lizzo, Melanie Martinez, Sia, MARINA, and Wiz Khalifa.

Association with Melanie Martinez[]

After being eliminated in the Top 6 on The Voice, Melanie Martinez began to work independently on original material. On April 7, 2014, it was announced that she had signed with Atlantic Records and would be releasing her debut extended play (EP), Dollhouse, through the label. Later on Melanie released Cry Baby, K-12, and PORTALS alongside various singles and EPs through them.[3]

On July 27, 2023, Atlantic Records privately messaged multiple large Melanie Martinez fan pages on Twitter. The message consisted of a link to multiple video files, which can be spliced into one video. The video featured a trailer about The Creature on the show Ancient Aliens. The full video can be viewed here.

Trivia[]

  • Atlantic provides the budget for her music videos and feature films.
    • Originally, artists who are signed to a major label are only allowed to film two music videos per album/project. However, due to the popularity and demand for Melanie's visuals, Atlantic continually approved Melanie's video requests to make music videos for every song on her albums.
