Revision as of 18:02, 16 July 2021

"A Thousand Words",[1] also registred as "Thousand Words",[2] is an unreleased song by Melanie Martinez. The song was initially written for her unknown 2013 extended play, however, the project was later scrapped. It was then repurposed for her debut album, Cry Baby, but was scrapped.

Leak History

  • February 19th, 2021 - The full studio version is leaked in high quality on Dbree.

Official versions

  • 2013 EP version - 3:33

It is assumed that Melanie never reworked the song for Cry Baby, and was going to use the 2013 EP version since it fit the album's sound during that time.

Background

This song was performed at the concert at the Constellation Room in Santa Ana, California on October 5th, 2013, and also at the concert at Gramercy Theatre in New York City on February 15th, 2014. Melanie mentioned this song in multiple Facebook posts in 2013 and 2014.

Melanie didn't perform this song at many 2013 live shows as the majority of her performances that year were with acoustic guitar and she didn't have a non-piano arrangement to perform the song.

Theme

Melanie mentioned this song in a post on Facebook in 2013 and stated that it was "written for those boys that don't appreciate when you're with them and you want to spend time with them [but] they don't care or understand how you feel".[3]

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
How can I see when my eyes are closed?
How can you be so far away and already wanna go?
How can we talk when our mouths are closed?
And I want you to know I can't fix what you have broke

[Pre-chorus]
Close my eyes and go to sleep (Woah-woah-oh-oh)
You're the last thing, the last thing that I see

[Chorus]
I had a thousand words to say
You just chose to walk away
Are you happy now you're free? (Woah-woah-oh-oh)
You gave me your heart
And took it back from me
Now I've seen the light of day
Boy, you don't mean shit to me

[Verse 2]
How can we write when the ink is gone?
Our love's an empty page that you've never written on
How can we be what we used to be?
Was it all just make-believe?
When my heart was on my sleeve

[Pre-chorus]
Close my eyes and go to sleep (Woah-woah-oh-oh)
You're the last thing, the last thing that I see

[Chorus]
I had a thousand words to say
You just chose to walk away
And are you happy now you're free? (Woah-woah-oh-oh)
You gave me your heart
And took it back from me
Now I've seen the light of day
Boy, you don't mean shit to me

[Bridge]
Our love's a postcard on its way heading towards no destiny
Our love's a postcard on its way heading towards no destiny
Our love's a postcard on its way heading towards no destiny
Our love's a postcard on its way heading towards no destiny

[Pre-chorus]
Close my eyes and go to sleep (Woah-woah-oh-oh)
You're the last thing, the last thing that I see

[Chorus]
I had a thousand words to say
You just chose to walk away
And are you happy now you're free? (Woah-woah-oh-oh)
You gave me your heart
And took it back from me
Now I've seen the light of day
Boy, you don't mean shit to me
