El 13 de marzo de 2015, Kristina Stanton (fotógrafa y amiga de Melanie) compartió el tema de esta canción en su escrito de Tumblr.[2]
Mientras estaba allí, Mel me mostró la demostración de la primera canción que Miles y ella escribieron completamente juntos, llamada Half Hearted, y se inspiró en el final de mi relación con mi esposo. Lo escribieron juntos desde la perspectiva de "cómo debería haberse sentido cualquier chico" si él y yo rompiéramos. ¿Qué tan dulce es eso?

La canción trata sobre el arrepentimiento y la reflexión después de una relación fallida. En la canción, se expresa su incredulidad por haber odiado a su pareja y haberlo hecho esperar tantas veces. Ahora que se da cuenta de que era amor verdadero, se siente mal por haber cometido errores y arruinado la relación. La letra habla de la casa vacía y de cómo su pareja le dijo que nunca quiere volver a verla. Y se da cuenta de que se equivocó y lamenta haber perdido a esa persona especial.
